Welcome to the website of the Franklin County Beekeepers Association.
Established in 1928, our organization holds regular meetings for members at the Frontier Senior Center. It is located at 67 N Main Street in South Deerfield, MA.
Meetings are typically held on the third Thursday of each month from 7pm – 9pm, although we do have special events throughout the beekeeping year. Please check the events page for the latest info on our meetings and events.
Next Meeting – April 20th. At the senior center in South Deerfield. The meeting starts at 7:00PM. There will be a question and answer secession for newer beekeepers starting at 6:30 PM.
Our guest speakers will be Ed and Marian Szymanski who are homesteaders and beekeepers. They live on one acre of land in Franklin, Mass. on a lot planted with fruits, vegetables and flowers, and no grass to speak of. The homestead includes bees and chickens, and a wide variety of fruits, berries, vegetables and pollinator-specific gardens. Their recent focus has been on identifying plants that provide quality food to bees and other pollinators and incorporating them into the homestead landscape. They are members of the Northeast Organic Farmers Association, and Ed currently serves as President of Norfolk County Beekeepers Association and on the board of Mass Bee.
They will present information about plants that provide nectar and pollen to honeybees and other pollinators in Massachusetts. Emphasis is placed on plants that provide quality food for bees and good nectar supply for honey production throughout the year, as well as on providing a diverse selection of plants for the bees to choose from. They will address what makes a good bee plant and what to avoid. Presentation features a large number of original photographs of bees on plants taken primarily on their property.
Also, please bring your items for our Raffle. Club membership dues can be paid to Eileen Palumbo.
